Trixie Up CloseIt is hard to find a more friendly dog than Trixie, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi who greets all visitors at Regusci Winery on the Silverado Trail in the Stags Leap District of Napa, California. At eight years old, Trixie also keeps her older companion Scrappy in shape and her brother Andy and the two younger dogs, Buck and Jack (two years old) in tow.

The Pembroke Corgi is best known for herding sheep, horses and cattle, and makes an excellent companion. No wonder Queen Elizabeth II has so many of them (reportedly 16)—the Queen needs someone she can count on, especially these days! The Corgi has been a favored dog by British royalty for more than 70 years and is also a very popular breed in the USA.

In keeping with the royal theme, the folks at Regusci call Trixie the “Princess” or “Queen Bee”. The most faithful of all of the Regusci dogs, Trixie goes to work each day, fulfilling her hostess duties as greeter, while the four boys are not always up to the task. Her favorite pastime is rolling over and letting everyone pet her stomach (she did that when we were there), but when there is a table of picnickers nearby, you can bet Trixie won’t be far away.

Pembrokes are low–set, strong, sturdily built and active, giving an impression of substance and stamina in a small space. Good things do come in small packages!

Regusci sent us these additional pictures (below), for which we are very grateful. We provided the captions.
