Max
October 2009
You’ve already met his two canine buddies, Hamish and Otis. Now, meet Max, the sweetest of all dogs. We fell in love with Max nine years ago at a local dog rescue organization. We were recovering from the loss of our previoius two rescue dogs when we discovered Max and Hamish, who were sharing a cage and were only offered as a package deal. Max looked older, which made his adoption more difficult for the rescue organization. That was lucky, because we wanted Max, too!
Although we were told Max was just a one year old pup when we brought him home, his vet says he was more likely about 4–5 years old at the time, which would put his current age at about 14 years. While Max has a fair amount of gray hair these days, he was jet black in his youth and enjoyed hiding from everyone in the corner of a closet or under a bed. We had a lot of fun trying to find Max around the house. His hair is the softest of any dog we’ve ever had and he enjoys cuddling with our children. We can’t be sure of his background, but we think Max is a Poo–rier—some sort of poodle and terrier mix.
Although Max is the oldest of the three dogs, he lets Hamish fill the role of alpha dog. Max prefers to spend his time contemplating life and conserving his energy. From a wine standpoint, Max definitely prefers Champagne, particularly Cremants. A daily touch of sweetness to keep him well adjusted!
