Griffin
September 2010
When we visited Crocker & Starr in July, we were greeted by Griffin, the youngster who takes care of winemaker Pam Starr and oversees the winery’s vineyard operation.
Griffin, a Long–Haired Wirehair Pointing Griffon, is a very special pup. Whelped in Sonoma on December 5, 2008, Griffin was lucky enough to move to Napa to be with Pam and her husband, Norm. His first birthday party was celebrated at Lake Berryessa with about 10 canine companions and 25 taller two–legged friends. Frisbees were chomped, balls were gnawed and fun was had by all. The dogs all swam that day, with Griffin and his parents leading the pack, taunting the others into the lake’s frigid waters.
Griffin loves bringing Pam to work. He is the official greeter and meets the cars to escort visitors to the winery’s porch. This spring, Griffin was found leaping through the red clover fields and chasing butterflies. He also enjoys running the rows of Cabernet Sauvignon vines and ignoring calls to return to the office. That’s good, because the real work is always done in the vineyard.
Life is good for Griffin.
Pam sent us the additional pictures below, for which we are very grateful.

Dear Rich – what a great Griffin the Griffon display. He’s such a handsome boy. I hope many will come to the estate and meet Griffin. Happy Harvest to all. Pam Starr

Thanks, Pam. Leah and I enjoyed meeting Griffin (and, of course, you and the rest of your crew)!

I’ve never seen a Griffon before. I’ll have to go to the winery someday to meet Griffin (and taste the wine, of course).
