PV Joe,
I think what I wrote agrees with your input on aerating older wines. The nice thing about these aerators is that you can aerate a single serving to see how the wine does. If it doesn't need aeration, you can switch over and just pour from the bottle. I usually pour a small taste from the bottle first and test it. Then, depending on the wine, I may use the aerator. This works better than traditional decanting, where you pour the entire bottle into a decanter and then it is too late to go back.

Yes, I agree this is a great gadget for younger and modestly aged wines. If you are worried that an older wine may be approaching or past its prime, you may want to think twice about using this. Aereating the wine is actually oxidizing it slightly. To a wine that is already sufficiently aged (partially oxidized) this will act like tacking another few years of bottle age on it and perhaps pushing completely over the edge.

Cool! I'll have to get one of these. I'm too impatient to wait for my wine to breathe (life is too short!) but it sounds like I won't have to now. Thanks for the info.

Your article is spot on. I've been using one of these (Selection) for years now and it totally eliminates the need to let the wine breathe for hours in advance. A great little gadget that really delivers!
